New GCSD Attendance Policy - Effective 1/11

On January 11 (and moving into Second Semester), the district will implement a revised attendance policy for virtual and remote learning. When students are learning asynchronously, they will have 2 days to complete the assignments to be marked present for the day. If the student does not complete the assigned work for the day during the two-day window, they will be given an unexcused absence. It is at the discretion of the teacher to accept the work for a grade, but the attendance will not change. If you have any questions, please contact the school.

Update - GCSD schools will remain in Remote Learning for the week of Jan. 19-22.

Georgetown County School District has made the decision to extend REMOTE instruction for the week beginning Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021. This is a change from the announcement that was made this past Friday.

Two weeks ago, Georgetown County recorded its highest incidence rate (per 100,000) of 719.5. Last week, we saw good improvement to 595.1. That was still high, but it was moving in a good direction. In addition, the large number of employees who were quarantined were projected to be able to return on Jan. 19. We have continued monitoring our incidence rate through the weekend and saw it climb from 595.1 on Friday to 648 on Sunday and 702 on Monday. Today, the incidence rate is 672. As a result, the decision was made to extend REMOTE instruction for another week through Friday, Jan. 22.

All Winter sports competitions and Spring sports conditioning will now resume on Jan. 25, 2021.

Students should continue to log on for live instruction with their teachers according to the REMOTE learning schedule currently used. Please be sure to check with your student’s teacher if you have any questions about specific times.

Information on the number of cases in schools can be found on the COVID-19 Dashboard located on the district website www.gcsd.k12.sc.us
