Schools Closed - Distance Learning Continues

Governor's executive order regarding school year

Posted on 04/23/2020

In compliance with Governor McMaster’s Executive Order to close schools for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, Georgetown County School District will not resume in-person classes. Instruction will continue through virtual and remote methods through May 22, 2020, (May 15 for seniors)  (more info to follow) but school district activities, such as proms, sporting events, extracurricular activities, and competitions, will not take place as scheduled. The district is earnestly working to determine the feasibility of holding virtual graduation ceremonies for seniors and is searching for options to reschedule other events when and if social distancing restrictions are lifted by the governor. Any announcements regarding rescheduled events will be posted as soon as possible.

Schools, students, and parents across the District have already expended considerable time and financial resources in preparing for these events. We are hopeful that any third parties with whom financial transactions have been conducted (such as airlines, hotels, venues, meeting organizers, photographers, formal wear stores/rental companies, and competition sponsors) will work with our families to refund any deposits or other funds. We regret that this school year has ended so abruptly and that our students will miss many of these milestone events.
