SCHOOL CLOSING: E-Learning Scheduled for Friday, September 30th

Due to expected inclement weather as a result of Hurricane Ian, and in consultation with Georgetown County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service, Friday, September 30, 2022, will be an eLearning Day for Georgetown County School District. All schools and facilities will be closed.

All after-school activities, programs and athletics are canceled for Thursday, September 29 and Friday, September 30. In addition, all activities scheduled for Saturday, October 1 are canceled or postponed.

Information about student learning on designated eLearning days is available online at the GCSD Technology Resource Center. Students in grades Pre-K-2 will receive paper packets or Seesaw assignments to complete. Students in grades 3-12 will be assigned lessons through Google Classroom. All assignments must be completed and turned in within three school days (Wednesday, October 5, 2022) in order for a student to be marked present for the eLearning day. In the event there are power or Wi-Fi outages, extensions to the due date will be announced.

We anticipate a return to normal operations on Monday, October 3, 2022. GCSD district administration will continue to monitor conditions across our county, and if additional schedule changes are needed, we will let you know. Please check local media, the district website, and the GCSD Facebook page for the latest information on school closings or delays.

Georgetown and Murrells Inlet Rotary Clubs are releasing applications for GCSD high school students who would like to apply for an exchange student opportunity for the 2023-2024 school year.  There is an overview attached along with an application.

In addition, the Rotary clubs are also looking for families in GCSD who would be interested in serving as a host family for a designated amount of time for the 2023-2024 school year for an international student who would be completing an exchange program here in GCSD.  There is also an overview form with a link to an application if any families might be interested.

Procedure for signing out your child.

Parents and Guardians:
If you are signing out your child, you MUST come in the office so the secretary can call them out of class.
If you want the student to sign themselves out, you MUST send an email or fax with a valid phone number. The secretary will call for validation and then call the student out of class to go home. The student must come to the front office to get a pass BEFORE leaving school.

Changes have occurred in PowerSchool for parents and students.

  1. Students will log in at gcsd.powerschool.com and click Student Sign-in. At that time, they will also be directly linked to their Google authentication.

  2. Parents will sign in at gcsd.powerschool.com and then be asked for a username and password.  We have set most of these usernames to be their email addresses at this time, but I (Mrs. Simmons) can assist parents with this on their contact page in PowerSchoolThere is also a working password reset function on this site for parents. I have attached instructions for working with parents from this point on with their parent portal accounts. Parents can still log in to their parent portal to complete returning student registration.
