Competitive Speech is alive and well at Waccamaw High School. Although the team is only in its 8th year of existence, it holds an active standing with the National Forensic League and has six Class 2A State Championships under its belt and one Class #A State Championship. The team has an individual events (acting and speaking) focus, but we have also have successful debaters. We travel nationally and have been represented at tournaments in Denver, Nebraska, Minnesota, as well as tournaments at Yale and George Mason University.
To be part of the Speech team, students must be registered for Competitive Speech I, II, or III. Competitive Speech I students must have teacher recommendations and have completed an honors level English class with at least an A or B. Please contact Ms. Lawson with questions.
Coach Lawson participated in Competitive Speech at the collegiate and high school levels and has coached for the past 28 years. She currently holds a Double Diamond Coach distinction in the National Forensic League. For current team calendars and information, please go to her main webpage.
